Two of our members made the trip up to Ryton for the JDC Breakfast Meet at the new Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works. Cameras are only allowed in the showroom area but this has some mouth-watering cars mostly with incredibly low mileages. The real treat though was to be able to walk around the incredible workshop. Rather than try and describe it here suggest you click on the link above and see for yourself. Just a few of the highlights:
brand new D-Types being built from scratch. Yours for £1 million pounds each (but all 25 are sold!!)
brand new XKSS being build from scratch. A little more expensive at £1.5 million each
When delivered neither of the above come out of the workshop as road legal. If the owner wants that they need to put the car through an IVA test! More information and pictures available here
3 XK220's were in for routine service. This includes removing the engine and transmission from the car, which apparently takes 3 to 4 hours 'when you have done a few' (as the technician we were talkng to said)
At the back of the workshop (which is the size of an aircraft hanger) around 400 mostly british classic cars are in storage awaiting restoration. All in all an amazing place to visit and highly recommended.
